Model Overview:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the pioneers that ushered in the modern midsize SUV in the early 1990s. Jeep has always wanted the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for urban duty, roomy enough for family duty, stylish enough to take out on the town and capable enough to tow your toys or shuttle your passengers to a remote campsite. Modern Grand Cherokees are far more refined than the early models, but they're no less versatile.

Unlike most other traditional SUVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been built using a carlike unibody platform for superior on-road handling. Yet Jeep's strong reputation for off-road prowess is retained, thanks to the Grand Cherokee's advanced four-wheel-drive systems and capable suspension. It's a rare combination of attributes in a modern utility vehicle, as the Jeep is able to venture farther off the beaten path than competing crossover SUVs.

I have a harmonic groan that comes from the drivetrain. Dealer cant fix it and Chrysler wont do anything about it. Filing for Lemon Law help. Wouldnt buy another one.

  • Worst car EVERRR!!! - 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I purchased my 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee brand new right off of the lot so that I would not have to worry about having car troubles. This car has been nothing but troubles! First it started stalling right after I would begin driving. I took it in and they replaced the ESM module. Then one year later it began stalling again, once while I was going 70 mph on the highway! So, I took it in again... and they replaced the ESM module... Again! I filed a complaint with Chrystler and they said that if it happens again they will look into it. Well, 6 months later, my car randomly wont start and is stalling more frequently than ever. They say they cant find anything wrong with my car. It wont start!!

  • Known Transmission issue that Jeep denies exists - 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

first 3 gears shift so hard that it will snap your head back. Took to dealer 3 separate times. They all say there is no fix and that it is normal. Google this issue. You will see that a lot of 2014 jeep grand cherokee owners have this problem. It feels like the transmission is slipping in the fist 3 gears. Even the service guys at 2 dealerships admit there is a problem but no fix and Jeep says its normal. Ive been driving cars for 22 years and I travel for work and rent cars every week. This problem is like no other Ive ever experienced in any other car. The GPS with voice controls is also worthless and system also does not work with messaging and iPhones. The most popular phone!

  • More and more parts breaking down... - 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Bought it with 55k miles, now it has 112k, over about 3 years. Freakin electronic parts are hugely expensive! Stuff keeps breaking down! Fortunately never the same thing twice (yet) Ive poured tons of $s into this thing. I want something with fewer electronics, and more reliability!

  • Piece of #$%@# - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

It is the worst vehicle I have ever owned. In 57000 miles the rear axle has been replaced 3 times, 5 power door locks, the AC, the alarm, the transmission. This is the 1st american made car I have owned in 15 years and It will be the last. The Jeep dealer wont stand behind it at all.

  • Will not own another Jeep... - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Bad experience all around. Horrible wind noise behind driver/passenger area. Warped luggage racks (fixed under warranty.) Horrible service from dealer. I was actual told that oil seeping from my engine was "normal" even though no one else seems to have the same problem. The steering stabilizer bolt almost came out. The track arm bolt DID come out (fixed at my expense. Even with an extended warranty.) Alternate dealership replaced oil pan gasket but did not tighten all the bolts when reassembling oil pan. Horrible resale. Overall poor fit/finish/quality for the price paid.

  • DONT DO IT !! - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Brake rotor problem at 16,000 miles. The transmission shifted real hard and makes a clunking noise when doing so. I took it to a 3rd party service center and had them do a transmission service on it (at 30,000 miles !!!!) and that seems to have helped. The ignition had to be replaced because the key would not turn anymore. The vehicle also had that problem with the fuel pump where it takes 3 tries to get it started. That was fixed during the warranty by a recall. My next door neighbor had the exact same problems and a couple others. I feel like I bought a jacked up 33,000 dodge aries k car.

  • the "Jeugo" - 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The moulded interior of the 2002 JGC Laredo reminds me of a childs cheap plastic toy. The drivers side is so cramped that I can barely keep from stepping on my own feet. The glove compartment is so small that the only thing that will fit in it is a pair of gloves. And finally, the car vibrates in idle.

  • SHAME ON YOU JEEP - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

I still have nightmares about this vehicle. I lost all trust in American cars over this one. I cant believe Jeep would release such a poor vehicle in 2000. Dealer bought mine back. Spent more time in repairs instead of my driveway. Mainly had transmission issues and axle issues. Luckily didnt own it long enough to experience the whole range of issues. Shame on you Jeep for releasing such a poor vehicle and ruining your reputation
